Holy Cross Parish Festival Tomorrow & We Need Your Help!

September 12, 2014
As you all know, we have our Parish Festival tomorrow (Saturday, September 13th) from 5-8 pm. We still need items for our classroom baskets and if you have any other items you wish to donate, it would be much appreciated. Scrip purchased from the school office can also be added to these baskets for a nice touch! If you can donate, either drop the item(s) off at the office by the end of school today, leave it on the bench outside of the office or call/email me and I will personally come pick it up.

Please also remember that we will need help during the festival. If you are able to volunteer for even an hour, it is much appreciated. Also, if you know a 7th or 8th grader that needs service hours, please have let them know we need their help!

I can be reached by phone/text at (816) 645-9105 or email at denise_barron17@yahoo.com. Thank you for spreading the word!

You’re Invited: Project 39 Happy Hour

May 6, 2014

project39Women of Holy Cross are sponsoring a “Project 39” Happy Hour on Thursday May 8 from 5 – 7 p. m. in Lickteig Hall in the basement of the church.

Project 39 was created by a group of women three years ago with the goal of making a difference in the Kansas City community and a focus on helping mothers in need of the basic essentials, as well as programs and education to break the cycle of poverty.

Holy Cross is proud to be holding one of 70 Happy Hours across the area to donate items to The Family Conservancy in Kansas City, KS.

What can I do, you ask?  Bring an item to donate such as diapers, wipes, laundry detergent, books and/or clothing. Then join us for wine and appetizers!

If you can’t make it to the Happy Hour but would like to contribute, please contact one of the numbers below, or drop your donation at the school or church office.

Questions or to make reservations, contact – Margi 381-8145 or Lynn 649-4178

Sharing Service Experiences

April 10, 2014

pix from Holy Cross mom, Mrs. Sullivan –

Holy Cross parish 8th graders recently presented a service fair at the church after masses. The students, either alone or in small groups, worked on service projects as part of their confirmation program. They chose a local organization and spent time there, learning about the group’s mission and helping them out. They put together display boards and wrote a paper, explaining which organization they picked and how they benefit the community.

The service fair was an opportunity for all our Holy Cross confirmation students to show their work and to share the lessons they’d learned from this service experience.

Thank you to our Holy Cross Director of Youth Ministries and Confirmation Coordinator, Sandy Schluter, for the work she has done preparing our students for confirmation.

8th Graders Donate Carnival Funds

April 2, 2014

Mission Carnivalfrom 8th grade teacher, Mrs. Patterson –

Holy Cross 8th graders voted to send the proceeds from the Mission Carnival they hosted in February to Father Bob Conroy’s Mission in Guatemala.

Fr. Bob and his fellow missionary priests currently are feeding over 300 children a day who otherwise would go hungry. He has been working with the local government to secure a place to establish a food kitchen.

The 8th graders remember the year that Fr. Bob was with us at Holy Cross and wanted to help his cause for establishing a food kitchen. They recalled how he visited their classrooms and shared his life as a Missionary of Charity priest.

After our expenses for the large inflatables that were in the gym and some odds/ends carnival supplies, the 8th grade class of 2014 will be donating about $625.00 to Fr. Bob’s Guatemala Mission.

Making Christmas Merrier

December 14, 2013

Thanks to all the Holy Cross families and friends who donated food, toiletries, furnishings, money and time to help the less fortunate have a special holiday season.

On Tuesday, our Holy Cross forces loaded up dozens of boxes and big items donated, and delivered them to Catholic Charities in Kansas City, Kansas. The Refugee and Migrant Services program workers welcomed the donated items, and quickly set out to get them to those who can use them, including refugees new to our country who need assistance to furnish their living spaces.

Holy Cross also helped with the Red Bag program this Christmas season, adopting families to provide gifts and necessities to children in need.
