Holy Cross Parish Festival Tomorrow & We Need Your Help!

September 12, 2014
As you all know, we have our Parish Festival tomorrow (Saturday, September 13th) from 5-8 pm. We still need items for our classroom baskets and if you have any other items you wish to donate, it would be much appreciated. Scrip purchased from the school office can also be added to these baskets for a nice touch! If you can donate, either drop the item(s) off at the office by the end of school today, leave it on the bench outside of the office or call/email me and I will personally come pick it up.

Please also remember that we will need help during the festival. If you are able to volunteer for even an hour, it is much appreciated. Also, if you know a 7th or 8th grader that needs service hours, please have let them know we need their help!

I can be reached by phone/text at (816) 645-9105 or email at Thank you for spreading the word!

If you don’t have anything you would like to donate, SCRIP cards are available for purchase at the school office and are always a nice touch!

Stein Mart Offers $25 Scrip Cards

March 18, 2014

from Holy Cross Scrip team member, Mrs. Downey –

SteinMartStein Mart $25 Gift Cards Available!

Holy Cross now offers Stein Mart $25 gift cards. $25 plastic gift cards are now available for the same 7% contribution. Stein Mart gift cards can be redeemed in stores or online at

That said, you all know what Scrip is, right?  If not, read on…

It’s an easy way to help raise money for Holy Cross,
and it’s a win-win proposition.

SCRIP is basically gift cards that you buy from the parish/school. You buy them at face value, and a percentage of the purchase is donated to Holy Cross (we can buy them at a reduced price – the percentage varies from store to store.)

LOTS of businesses where you currently shop are on the list, I’m sure. There are restaurants, gas station, grocery stores, retail of all sorts, online shopping (including SchoolMall, but that’s a whole other blog post!) The SCRIP list is long. Pick up a form at the church or school, if you’re interested – or download the forms online (form for SCRIP we keep in stock all the time and form for SCRIP we sometimes have to order).

You can choose to have the entire percentage donated to Holy Cross, or you can split the percentage. If you have a child at Holy Cross School, you can put your percentage of the SCRIP purchase toward your child’s tuition the following year (We tabulate your SCRIP purchases all year, and you get a statement in May of your total. At that time, you can choose to donate it to the Guardian Angel Fund or your child’s tuition.)

To give you an idea of the financial reward of the Scrip program for Holy Cross, think about this:

  • If one family buys $100 of Hy-Vee SCRIP each week for a year, the return is: $260 (5%)
  • If one family buys $50 of Penney’s or Kohl’s SCRIP each month for a year, the return is: $30 (5%) – AND you can even use Kohl’s SCRIP to pay your Kohl’s charge!
  • If one family buys $100 of CVS, Walgreen’s, or Wal-Mart SCRIP each month for a year, the return is: $24 (2%)
  • If one family does all of the above, their “extra” annual contribution to Holy Cross is: $314
  • If 200 families did this, the extra annual contribution to Holy Cross would be $62,800

The SCRIP cards make great gifts.

They’re also a good tool for budgeting. (How much is your family’s monthly grocery budget? Spend that for SCRIP to your grocery store and that’s it. That’s what you get for the month. Makes it easier to stick with it, some say.)

Bottomline, you’re going to buy groceries and gas, right? Get into the habit of thinking ahead and buying SCRIP to make your purchase. Like I said, win-win.

You can purchase the SCRIP cards at Holy Cross School during the week and at Holy Cross Church before and after mass on the weekend. The organizers make it really easy. You can even send your SCRIP order form in via backpack mail along with your check, and your cards will be returned to you within days.

Scrip = Gift Cards, pretty much.
Buy the cards from Holy Cross for face value, and the school gets a percentage.  There are loads of stores, restaurants and other businesses on the list. Take a look. Use them for groceries, gas, gifts, etc.

  • Hard-to-buy-for teens on your list? Get them $25 or $100 gift cards to Amazon, $15 or $25 gift cards to iTunes, $25 gift cards to AMC movie theaters or a $10, $25 or $100 card to Target.
  • Grandma-and-Grandpa say they don’t need anything?  Get them a restaurant gift card – there are dozens to choose from.
  • College kids?  Grocery, gas and Target or WalMart cards are the perfect thing.
  • Teacher gifts? We’ve got $5, $10 and $25 cards to coffee shops and restaurants, Barnes & Noble, Target & WalMart and more.
  • Still can’t decide?  You can buy a Generic Scrip Certificate and let them make their own choice!
  • If you’d rather buy a gift than give a gift card, buy a Scrip card before you head to the store to make your purchase. We’ve got Toys R Us and American Girl cards when you’re shopping for the little ones, Sports Authority and Nike for the sporty ones, Home Depot, Lowe’s and Sears cards for the handy-around-the-house, Michaels and JoAnn’s for the crafty ones, and Petsmart for the critters!
  • Last but not least, don’t forget to stock up on Scrip before you purchase your Christmas outfits – we’ve got Scrip to all sorts of clothing stores, including JCPenney, K-Mart, Kohls, Dillard’s, Gap/Old Navy/Banana Republic, Macy’s, Marshall’s/TJMaxx, Children’s Place, Gymboree, American Eagle, etc. And we’ve got your shoe & boot needs covered at Payless Shoes, DSW, Footlocker and more.

Scrip is available for purchase after mass at Holy Cross Church on the weekends, and from the Holy Cross school office during the week.

Scrip makes holiday shopping so easy. Take a look at the list. Let us know if you have any questions.

Scrip Specials!

September 5, 2013

For those of us that start thinking about Christmas early we thought we would share a great gift idea.  There is currently a supply of Scrip cards in small denominations of $5 and $10, not always available, for Target, Walmart, Panera Bread and Barnes & Noble. Gift cards make a great gift for birthdays, weddings, or just to get groceries at Hy-Vee or Target for your family and also help Holy Cross School.

PLUS, you may now purchase $10 Scrips cards for Caribou Coffee which is perfect for those parents that use the wonderful Hy-Vee near Holy Cross School.

Another great way to help our school is with a Target Debit/Credit Card.  When activating a Target Debit/Credit card, users have the option of choosing a school to which Target will make a donation for every purchase you make with the card at Target. If you, your friends, family or neighbors sign up for a RedCard from Target, ask them to name Holy Cross Catholic School as the beneficiary. The card also gives you 5% off every Target purchase, plus free shipping for purchases made at  Remember, every little bit counts and this is a great way to help Holy Cross!
