School Calendar

October 28, 2013

Did you know the Holy Cross school calendar is available to include with your personal calendar this year? You can sync it from your smartphone or your desktop/laptop computer.

Here are 3 easy ways to access the Holy Cross school calendar:

View it on our school website

View it on your Google calendar

or Android phone/tablet.

  • Visit and click on Calendar in the left column.
  • In the lower right corner of the calendar, click on +Google Calendar (see image below)
  • Once it’s one of your calendars, you can choose to view the school calendar listings or not see them on your own calendar view any time. It gets a bit overwhelming to look at ALL the school events, so try checking in once a day or once a week to make sure you know what’s going on.

View it on your Outlook calendar.

  • Open Outlook. Choose Open Calendar (see image below). Open Calendar will have a dropdown menu. Select the option ‘From Internet’.

  • OutlookCalendarClick OK.

If you have any problem setting these up, feel free to contact Melissa Schultz or Marti Palmer, and they’ll help walk you through it!

Week At A Glance

October 1, 2012

It’s October already, can you believe it?!
The schedule remains busy at Holy Cross School.
Here’s a look at a few of the events going on this week –

(by the way – did you download the school newsletter and get the updated October school calendar? If not, click here…)

Monday (today, Oct. 1)

  • A new Box Tops contest begins! Click here for the latest collection sheet, or just hand them in in a bag with your student’s name & class code on it. We’re approaching our first goal deadline – to reach last year’s collection by the end of the first quarter. We can achieve that goal with everyone’s help. Clip, clip, clip! Thanks!
  • If you purchased trash bags for the school fundraiser but didn’t pick them up on Friday, they are now available in the front hall at the school. There are additional bags for sale in the school office.

Wednesday (Oct. 3)

  • Holy Cross Day at Johnny’s Tavern @ 95th & Antioch. Bring in the family for lunch or dinner. 20% of food sales will be donated to Holy Cross School. (Please don’t use Scrip cards that day there.)

Thursday (Oct. 4)

  • PTO Meeting in the school library at 7 p.m.  ALL HOLY CROSS PARENTS ARE WELCOME!  We’ll review recent PTO events and fundraisers, discuss upcoming activities, welcome new PTO Board members and gather ideas for the remainder of the school year.

Friday (Oct. 5)

  • Spirit Day– which means students can wear any Holy Cross spirit wear on top with their uniform bottoms.
  • Kinders & first graders will enjoy the pumpkin patch.
  • Students who read all the William Allen White Award-nominated books last year will attend the WAW Awards Weekend in Emporia. Congrats to all – enjoy the trip!

Peeking on to next week’s calendar, don’t forget that there is NO SCHOOL for students on Monday, Oct. 8, as teachers have an In-Service training day.

This Week @ Holy Cross…

September 24, 2012

It’s a busy week at Holy Cross.
Here are a few things to note:

  • ITBS testing begins this week. Make sure the kids get a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast each day!
  • Holy Cross Mom: meet us at Johnny’s Tavern @ 95th & Antioch tonight, 7 – 9 p.m. Moms’ Night Out!
  • Plan on dinner at the school on Thursday night. Bring a dish to share at our first Shine The Light evening. We’ll eat dinner in Pflumm Hall and learn more about the Religious Education programs at Holy Cross School. Don’t miss it – it will be fun!
  • There’s an All School Mass at the church on Friday morning at 9:00. Parents and friends are welcome.
  • Friday is the day to pick up your trash bag orders. More details coming about that soon!
  • Friday is also the final day for September’s Box Tops contest. Get clipping – there’s a cookie party in it for the classroom that gathers the most Box Tops.

Lots Going On This Week…

September 3, 2012

Hope you had a nice, relaxing Labor Day holiday weekend. Are you refreshed and ready to hit the ground running on Tuesday?  It’s a busy week at Holy Cross School, so I thought some reminders might be in order:

  • Tuesday is the first day of classes at the Holy Cross Early Education Center (EEC/preschool). There is also a PTO meeting at 7 p.m. in the school library. Please plan on joining us!
  • Thursday is Chiefs Red Day!
  • Friday is Grandparents Day at Holy Cross. Join us for a special mass at Church of the Holy Cross – parents are welcome, as well as grandparents and other people special to our Holy Cross students. All are welcome back at the school following mass. Stop by the classrooms, the school library, and especially Pflumm Hall – where you can enjoy a tasty treat while meeting other parents, grandparents and special people.  School is officially dismissed at 11 a.m. The Holy Cross Parish Open / Jack Weitkamp Memorial Golf Tournament is held on Friday afternoon. Click here for more information – we hope you’ll be there!

As if that isn’t enough to keep you busy,

* CYO volleyball games begin this week. Games will be played Thursday through Saturday this year, with no Sunday games.

* Volunteer opportunities are still available for several upcoming events. Click here to check them out.

* Holy Cross Moms: jot Sept. 24 in your calendar. Meet with other moms for a Girls’ Night Out at Johnny’s (95th & Antioch). More info coming, but get it on your calendar.

* While you have your calendar handy, put this down for Oct. 3 — Dinner at Johnny’s. Eat @ Johnny’s  (95th & Antioch) any time on that day, mention you’re there for Holy Cross, and they’ll donate 20% of your food purchase to the school. Again, more info later, but get it on your calendar now.

* The August Box Tops contest is officially finished. We’ll post the winners as soon as we can, and they’ll be enjoying a cookie party very soon. We’re off to a great start, by the way. Remember, the first goal of the year is to reach last year’s collection total by the end of the first quarter. It’s an ambitious goal, but it’s looking like we might be able to pull it off!  Think of a new way this week to find Box Tops – take a look in your office’s supply cabinet, ask a neighbor or family member to clip them for Holy Cross or ask co-workers to keep an eye out for them. Look for details about our September contest this week.

Thursday Things

August 23, 2012

Just a bunch of reminders, notes and interesting things for your Thursday –

The Major Dates calendar on the blog has been updated. Did you note the changes that Dr. Beverlin sent out this week? NOTE: they’re not changes from the calendar in the school directory – they’re changes since the ‘major dates’ calendar was released in the spring.

Back to School Night for parents of students in 6th through 8th grade is tonight. Reminder: Back to School Nights are intended for parents only – please find a sitter for the kids. Thanks.

The Father/Daughter Dance is just a day away! Are the rock stars in your family ready?! Remember that the dance is at the church this year, in the new Parish Hall. See you there, dads & daughters.

Mrs. Byrne’s 5th-grade class still leads the Box Tops race for the cookie party this month. Mrs. O’Brien’s 3rd-grade class isn’t far behind. And there are several other contenders with a week left to turn them in. Good luck!

Did you see?  Overland Park, KS was rated one of the top 10 places to live in the U.S. by CNN Money Magazine. We’re ranked #9, to be exact. Click here to read more from the city of Overland Park about the honor.  And, did you know we’re one of just three cities in the nation to be ranked in the top 10 list every year since 2006?  FYI – the other cities in the top 10 this year were Carmel, IN, McKinney, TX, Eden Prairie, MN, Newton, MA, Redmond, MA, Irvine, CA, Reston, VA, Columbia/Ellicott City, MD and Chapel Hill, NC.
