Novena of Thanksgiving to Monsignor Nicholas Wegner

January 31, 2011

Sometimes our prayers are answered in ways we do not expect, and the unbelievably generous gift from the Kelly and Walsh families is certainly an answer to our prayers!

It is traditional to follow a novena of petition with a nine day novena of thanksgiving. We have certainly been blessed, so with thankful hearts we lift up our prayers to God through Monsignor Wegner:

Monsignor Wegner, we the students, parents, and parishioners of Holy Cross are overwhelmed by the amazing gift of $500,000 from the Kelly and Walsh families. We are thankful for your intercession on our behalf, and offer our praise, adoration, and thanksgiving to God. We know that God always answers our prayers even if it is not exactly how we expect! Please shower the Walsh and Kelly families with your abundant blessings. They are special members of the body of Christ building your kingdom here on earth. Keep us ever mindful of the visible and invisible ways you work miracles in our lives.

Wow. Just wow.

January 30, 2011

Thanks to everyone for your support, your votes and your prayers as we’ve competed for the $250K Pepsi Refresh grant this month!  What a tremendous effort we have made.

The estimates to replace our windows and install central air conditioning (with necessary electrical upgrades) are in the $650,000 range.  Last night at Celebration we received some amazing news from a group of generous parent alumni. Bonnie & Jerry Kelly and Tom & Teresa Walsh let us know that if we can raise $150,000, they will cover the rest of the project (whether we win the Pepsi Grant Contest or not).

When I announced this news, the room erupted in cheers and a standing ovation.  It was great to have them present and be able to thank them in person.

Then, our community responded with giving over $60,000 toward this project.  I will meet with our School Advisory Council this week and we will begin plans for raising the remaining $90,000.

I will keep you posted as things unfold.

Please give thanks to God for our good fortune, and keep the Kelly and Walsh families in your prayers.  We thank them for their generosity.

A few random notes…

January 29, 2011

Just a few quick and random thoughts for you to consider this weekend –

  • Voting continues through Monday for the Pepsi Refresh contest. “It ain’t over ’til it’s over!” So, please vote, vote, vote. All the voting info is on the school website at holycrosscatholicschool.com.
  • Please consider dropping by the school tomorrow morning to help clean up after Celebration. We’ll start after 7:30 mass and continue until it’s done. Many hands make light work – it won’t take more than a few hours if we have lots of helpers.  Call Jenny Kropf if you have any questions.
  • Registration forms for the 2011-12 school year went home by backpack mail this past week. The discounted Early Bird registration fee ends on February 15, so get that check and paperwork returned to the office soon!
  • Box Top and Label coordinator Marti Palmer is looking for a UPC code from a Pepperidge Farm product and a Pop Secret product (for a Labels for Education bonus sheet that was turned in). If you can provide either or both UPC codes, please send them by backpack mail to Marti (Devin Palmer, 5NE).

I told you they were going to be random thoughts, didn’t I?

Thanks for your help. Have a great weekend. See you at Celebration tonight!

#8 and moving up!

January 20, 2011

We’ve moved to 8th place in the Pepsi Refresh contest!

Wow. Thanks to all our voters for making this possible.
Especially on a cold, snowy day like today,
those new, efficient windows sure would be nice
to have at the school!

We have 11 days to move up at least 6 more spots.
We can do this. Continue to vote and spread the word.

For all the voting information, direct people to holycrosscatholicschool.com.

See You There!

January 13, 2011

Please plan on coming to Pflumm Hall at Holy Cross School tonight at 7 p.m.

Join with others in our Holy Cross community to figure out how we’re going to break out of #12 place in the Pepsi Refresh voting.

We need everyone’s help, support, time and votes to win.

There’s a job for everyone in this effort.  Find out what you can do and sign up!  You could pass out flyers at your child’s/children’s basketball games, help people get signed up, make cookies or contribute candy for some of the ‘get out the vote’ events planned and/or visit other parishes to hand out cards after mass.

We need each and every member of our community to help.
Join us tonight to rally for the cause!

If you can’t make it to the meeting but want to help, please contact Laura Hauesser. Thanks!
