Holy Cross Parish Festival Saturday September 13th!

September 2, 2014

The Holy Cross Parish Festival Needs Donations and Voluteers

This year the Holy Cross Parish Festival will be September 13th from 5-8 pm. We are still in need of some items for the classroom baskets. If you have something that you would like to donate it would be much appreciated. If you don’t have anything you would like to donate, SCRIP cards are available for purchase at the school office and are always a nice touch!

We will also need help before, during and after the Parish Festival.  This is a perfect opportunity for 7th and 8th graders to earn service hours.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer/donate items or time, please contact Denise Barron at (816) 645-9105 or via email at

Volunteer/Service Opportunities Abound

September 12, 2013

Holy Cross Parish Festival will be held this Saturday, Sept. 14 from 2 to 5 p.m., and there are ways for everyone to pitch in and help. Here are some ideas for you:

  • Contact PTO President Marie Jareczek if you’re a 7th or 8th grade student willing to help out in the PTO bingo tent for an hour between 2 and 4 p.m. Not only will it be a big help to the PTO, you will also earn service hours for your time. Duties will include handing out and picking up bingo cards.
  • Fathers Club can always use an extra pair of hands with set-up and clean-up. They’ll be setting up the event on Friday night, and cleaning up after the festival. Contact a Fathers Club officer (Jon Chitwood, Joe Jareczek, John Schultz or Jorge Palazuelos) if you have any questions or to volunteer.
  • Maura Dodson is looking for 7th and 8th-grade student volunteers to work in the children’s craft tent during the parish festival.  This is another opportunity to have fun volunteering while scoring some service hours! Email Mrs. Dodson with the time slot that you’d prefer.
  • The 2nd Annual Holy Cross Fun Run is set to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday. The registration fee (of $10 adult/$7 high school students/$5 students K-8/free for the toddler-preschool Grass Dash) will support the Holy Cross Guardian Angel Fund. Students participating in the Fun Run/Walk can complete their 26th mile of our FIT Club and earn a medal.  Mrs. Obershaw has communicated this portion of the event to all students in PE class.  Ribbons will be given to all Grass Dash participants. Walk or run for a great cause!
  • Plan on attending 5 p.m. mass on Saturday, then stay for a fun concert of hits from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.  Plenty of grill food and beverages will be provided by the Knights of Columbus.  Bring your lawn chairs and blankets.

Pick a way to help!  Then see you at the festival!!

Parish Festival Weekend Details

September 11, 2012

Holy CrossHoly Cross Parish Festival is this upcoming weekend!

Definitely plan on attending on Sunday from 1 – 5 p.m., but there are SO many more ways to be involved.  It takes MANY people to make the festival happen and be a success. Please consider how you can help –

    • Announcers are needed in the bingo tent. (just a 1-hour commitment on Sunday afternoon. 4 people are needed) Contact Holly Bailey at 913-888-0019 or call the school office to help.
    • Middle school students (grades 6 – 8) to hand out bingo cards (1-hour commitment on Sunday afternoon. 16-20 people are needed. great opportunity for service hour!) Contact Holly Bailey at 913-888-0019 or call the school office to help.
    • Gift baskets and prizes are needed. (Please drop off with the school office by Friday.) Contact Holly Bailey at 913-888-0019 or call the school office to help.
    • Helpers to set up and tear down the chairs and tables at the festival. (Meet at the church on Saturday at noon to help set up, and stay after the festival on Sunday to help tear down.) Contact John Schultz (913-515-1993) if you can help.
    • The Holy Cross 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk will take place Saturday morning at Church of the Holy Cross.  Please join us!
    • Gather at the church at 7:45 a.m.. The run/walk will start right at 8:00.
    • The cost is $5 per students (age 5 – 14) and $10 per those aged 15+ (ages 0 – 4 are free). Registration on Saturday will cost you more – $7 for ages 5 – 14 and $12 for ages 15+. So, sign up early for a bargain! If you can’t or don’t want to run or walk, consider sponsoring a student or a whole class at Holy Cross.
    • It’s great exercise – and Holy Cross students can fill FIVE boxes on their FIT Club sheets for participating!
    • There will be great breakfast – the Knights of Columbus will host a pancake breakfast at the church during and after the fun run/walk. Even if you can’t run or walk, come on down for the breakfast!
    • There’s a great forecast for the day! It should be a nice cool morning in the 60s for the run/walk.
