OMG, She’s Headless

April 28, 2014

We’ve been marking the progress in our goal to raise $3,300 in Box Tops funds for the Guardian Angel Tuition Assistance Fund this year by creating a ‘virtual student’ to show how those funds will be used. Vicki the Virtual Student is now headless. We’ve raised $2,464 this school year, but we need $836 to reach our goal. Help us fill in Vicki’s head! Send in your Box Tops to Holy Cross today.

We had a really close class competition in March. Mrs. Burkhart’s 3rd graders inched past Mrs. Anderson’s 1st graders. The winner is picked on Box Tops per student (not total Box Tops because the class sizes vary).  There was .25 Box Tops per student difference between 3BU and 1AN in March.  Nice job, both classes!  Both enjoyed a cookie party, but 3BU will keep the traveling trophy until the April winners are named.

Our final class collection of the school year will be picked up this Thursday, May 1. Please send in all the Box Tops, Labels for Education and Best Choice UPCs that you’ve collected, and help us fill in the head on Vicki the Virtual Student!

Want to Clip, Count & Promote?

March 25, 2014

It’s that time of the school year when you need to consider how you want to be involved with the school next year. What projects interest you? What time and talents do you have to offer?

Here’s one way you can get involved – join the Holy Cross team that coordinates our Box Tops, Labels for Education and Best Choice UPC collections!

We’re looking for a couple of parents and/or parish members to help clip, count and promote the program. It’s not a huge time commitment, and the times are extremely flexible. A couple of our team members have graduating 8th graders, but we still have a couple members on the team, so you’ll have help. They can get you filled in on the program and how you can be a part of it.

If you’re interested in finding out more about the team and how we raise money for Holy Cross with Box Tops, Labels for Education and Best Choice UPCs, email holycrossop@gmail.com.

p.s. We’ll have more volunteer opportunities listed here on the blog soon!

And The Winning Family Is…

September 7, 2013

BoxTops-Labels-UPCs-congratsCongratulations to the Rodriguez family!

They clipped their way to the prize in the summer collection contest. Full disclosure… the families of two of our Box Tops/Labels/Best Choice UPCs committee members, Beckon Brown-Benedict and Julie Lundstrom, absolutely dominated the contest, collecting almost a quarter of the total themselves. But, they kindly declined the prize and are passing it along to the next highest count from the Rodriguez family, who brought in 413 points for Holy Cross. The Rodriguez family wins a Houlihans gift card and some treats for their effort. Congrats!

In total, we collected 2,333 Labels for Education, 581 Best Choice UPCs and 6,086 Box Tops in the summer contest, for a grand total of exactly 9000 points. What a great start to the new school year.

Each classroom now contains a Box Tops/Labels/Best Choice UPCs collection bag. We’ll be clearing out those bags at the end of every month to name the winning classroom and award them the Box Tops Traveling Trophy and a special treat. So, clip those Labels, UPCs and Box Tops, and send them in with your student(s).

Feel free to collect them all in a bag.

Summer Clippin’

July 10, 2013

BoxTops-LabelsForEducation-BestChoiceUPCsHope you’ve been clipping those Box Tops for Education, Labels for Education and Best Choice UPCs this summer. The family that submits the most points by the first Friday of the new school year will win the Holy Cross Summer Collection Contest.

And do you know what that means?
It means you could win a $50 gift card to an awesome local restaurant!

Well worth some clipping and saving, right?

  • Clip the ones you see at your house.
  • Ask co-workers, neighbors, family and friends to clip and save for Holy Cross.
  • Look around work for Box Tops on reams of papers, office supplies packaging and boxes of tissue.

Let’s start this 2013-14 school year with a bang. Clip and send in to Holy Cross. You can drop some off during the summer, if you want. Or save them for now and send in when school starts. Whatever works for you. Thanks!

Pizza Party Prize

May 23, 2013

Congrats to Mr. Wagner’s 7th grade class, and THANKS for their hard work in collecting Box Tops, Labels for Education and Best Choice UPCs for Holy Cross in our final contest of the year. They enjoyed a pizza lunch party today as their prize.

As a whole school effort, we about doubled our Box Tops collections this school year. I’m pretty sure we also about doubled our Labels for Education total. And, although the Best Choice UPC program works on the calendar year instead of the school year, I can report we have already collected in 2013 as much as we did the entire year of 2012 (and that was a record year).

Let’s keep up the good work, and raise the bar again next year!  School families should have received a collection bag in backpack mail this week to use over the summer. If not, hopefully it will be in your child’s bag tomorrow.  Our collection contest over the summer will be family against family, so just make sure that you jot your family name on the bag before handing in your Box Tops, Labels for Education and Best Choice UPCs when school starts in August! (Everything submitted with a name on it since the last contest ended on May 3 will count toward this summer contest.)

Mr. Wagner's 7th graders enjoyed pizza, cookies & drinks today for lunch as winners of the Big Finale Contest for collecting the most Box Tops, Labels for Education and Best Choice UPCs.

Big Finale Results

May 14, 2013

Great job to everyone who contributed Box Tops, Labels for Education and Best Choice UPCs in our Big Finale Contest!

Congratulations to Mr. Wagner’s 7th grade class. They’ll be enjoying a pizza party and cookies in this last week or so of school!  Mrs. Patterson’s 8th grade class also topped 1,250 points in the contest, so they too will be enjoying a cookie party in their final days of school. Kudos also to Mrs. Wagner’s kindergartners and Mrs. Anderson’s 1st graders, who each collected more than 1,000 points in the final contest.

So, here are the final numbers –

  • Holy Cross collected 8,058 Box Tops, 790 Best Choice UPCs and 4,291 Labels for Education in the Big Finale Contest.
  • We don’t have an official total yet, but it looks as if we’ve raised more than $2,800 from Box Tops funds for our Holy Cross Guardian Angel Fund.
  • Thanks to our Labels for Education coordinator, Beckon Brown-Benedict, Holy Cross has benefited from thousands of bonus points available through the program. With a keen eye on making the most of the labels submitted, she has seen to it that we more than doubled our Labels collections this year, which means we’ll also be receiving LOTS of additional points for blowing by our goal!  Time for the school and preschool offices to start shopping from the Labels catalog! We’ll keep you posted.

We’ll be sending home summer collection bags with students next week. The Summer Contest will be family vs. family, and will count points from Box Tops, Labels for Education and Best Choice UPCs again. So, hang the bag on your fridge and clip those Best Choice UPCs, Labels for Education and Box Tops. Jot your family name on the bag and send it back in when school starts in August!
