5th – 8th Graders Make Beautiful Music

April 29, 2014

Holy Cross students gathered to make joyful noise together last week at the annual Spring Concert. The concert included performances by the 5th grade band, 6th grade band, junior high band, jazz band, 5th grade, 6th grade and junior high vocal choirs, junior high bell choir and drama class, along with several solo and small group highlights.

This was the concert debut of our new Holy Cross Jazzy Hornets jazz band. And they sounded great!

The big finale of the show featured all of the students in grades 5 through 8 gathering to sing ‘I Need You To Survive’ by Frazier.

Thanks to our music director Mrs. Cain, junior high choir director Mrs. Kincaid, drama director Ms. Marx, and the accompianists and other helpers who made this night possible.

Check out pictures and videos from the concert on the school’s Shutterfly photo gallery at holycrossop.shutterfly.com (password = holycrossop)

5th Graders Create Planets

March 17, 2014

from Holy Cross 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Kroge –

Have you ever wanted to visit a planet named Candillamadingdong, made up of chocolate and mints?

Or you could travel to space to visit Matonics, which is a planet where bass clefs sing all day long?

Holy Cross fifth-grade students had to design their own planet for a recent project. They came up with the seasons for the planets, an atmosphere, physical features, and so much more!

5th-Grade Pottery – Yum.

November 30, 2012

from Holy Cross Art Teacher, Mr. Long –

Holy Cross 5th graders just completed a clay project called “Plates-o-Food”.

In this unit, students learn about the artist Pablo Picasso, and how he changed ceramics from a craft to a fine art. We also learn about Form, the differences between 2D & 3D Art and bas-relief sculpture.

For the sculpture part of the project, the students design and make their own Plate-o-food, and the results are amazing and always unique for each student. They learn different techniques for building, forming and texture of the clay.

This project has always been a favorite here at Holy Cross.
