A Colorful Easter Hunt

April 30, 2014

What a beautiful afternoon it turned out to be between storms on Saturday. A great day for an egg hunt!

There were approx 100 children who attended the 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Holy Cross.  There was fun and fellowship as children hunted for colorful eggs full of candy in the school yard and parents visited with each other.  Children also spent time in the kindergarten classrooms where they enjoyed Easter crafts, coloring and a sticker book.

A special thanks to Jesus G., Billy H, Kristen H. and Jason H. for hiding the eggs for this event.

Invasion of First Grade Sea Turtles

May 9, 2013

from Holy Cross art teacher, Mr. Long –

Spoiler alert for Moms of Holy Cross first graders – act surprised if your house is invaded by a sea turtle on Mother’s Day!

This project is building on what that we learned last year in kindergarten. The children made pinch pots last year, and this year we are taking it a step further by adding pieces of clay to the pinch pots and learning about scoring and slip. We also added patterns to our turtles’ shells, which was a main theme this year.

We learned a lot about sea turtles as well. As with all clay projects, the kids really seem to enjoy this one.

The kindergarten and first grade classes went to KC Pumpkin Patch in Gardner, Kansas on Friday.

The students were all bundled up on the chilly fall morning to explore all sorts of fun activities.  They were able to swing, ride the train and hay ride, go down various slides, enjoy the petting zoo, and even pick out their very own pumpkin to take home. The students were able to observe the seasonal changes and learn about plant growth, and all had a wonderful time!
