M&M’s In Tech Class?

October 23, 2012

from Holy Cross technology teacher, Mrs. Mason –

During the first semester, Holy Cross Junior High Technology Students are divided into small groups to conduct market research about M & M’s.

Each group is given a bag of M & M’s to study. As a group, they make predictions, sort, classify and summarize their findings about their candies in an Excel worksheet.

The numbers of colors found in each bag are charted for comparison. From each group’s worksheet, students convert the numbers into graphs and write a final report that describes the project, their procedures, and what the data revealed to them about candy colors and distribution.

This is a great opportunity for students to use and apply their technology skills in a real-world assignment using MS Word, MS Excel, and the Internet. Curriculum connections include both math and language arts.
