info from Holy Cross Jr. High Social Studies Teacher, Mr. Wagner –

Holy Cross Quiz Bowl team participated in two tournaments in the past week, and made a great showing at both.

The Holy Cross Quiz Bowl team placed 2nd out of 7 schools at the St. Thomas Aquinas Scholar’s Bowl on Monday, Oct. 15. The morning started off rough with two losses, but Holy Cross finished strong by winning 4 straight rounds to earn a place on the podium. Congratulations to Becca Haeusser, Alessandro DeBrevi, Ellie Thompson, Anna Reynolds, Rachel Siurek, and Claire Deschamp for representing Holy Cross at the tournament.

The first competition of the year for the Quiz Bowl Team came last Thursday, Oct. 11, when the Holy Cross team competed against 12 area Catholic schools at the Bishop Miege Quiz Kids Tournament. After a heartbreaking loss to Nativity in the opening round of the double elimination tournament, Holy Cross rallied to an outstanding 4th place finish in the tournament. 8th graders Will Downey, Jaden Castinado, Emma Callahan, Ashley Helm and Ryan Jones caught fire in the middle rounds. At the center of Holy Cross’ dramatic finish was 7th grader Jack Wolverton. Holy Cross trailed Holy Spirit by 5 points going into the last question of the round, which was worth 10 points. Jack swiftly buzzed in and answered the question correctly to win the round for Holy Cross and guaranteed a 4th place finish and a plaque for the Holy Cross trophy case.

Congratulations and thanks

to all the competitors for

proudly representing Holy Cross.
