Lunch in the Library

April 14, 2011

from Holy Cross Librarian Anne Anderson –

This week Holy Cross students voted on their favorite William Allen White List book.

This is a state (3rd-8th grade) reading program in which children in Kansas qualify to vote on their favorite from a recommended reading list when they have read at least 2 of the books.

Here at Holy Cross the students are encouraged to read at least 5 books on the list.  When they do, they are invited to eat a pizza lunch in the Library.  Today, 30  3rd, 5th & 6th graders joined me for lunch.  Yum!

When the 3rd – 5th grade students read the entire list or 6th – 8th grade students read 7 from their list, they are invited to the annual William Allen White Awards ceremony held in Emporia, KS.  So far this year, there are 23 students qualified to attend the ceremony and read-in with the award-winning authors September 24th.

Way to go, Hornets!
