Symphony Field Trip

November 8, 2010

from Holy Cross Music Director Melissa Cain –

The sixth-grade students attended a Young People’s Concert by our very own Kansas City Symphony last week.

This year’s theme was “Rhythm Makes the World Go ‘Round.”  Students listened to classical music by Sousa, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and many more.  Not only did students talk about different rhythms in rock, hip-hop and Latin music, but they also learned about how accents can create new and exciting rhythms.

The symphony used Beethoven’s famous 5th Symphony to show how changing the rhythm can change the feel of the song.  Some students had never been to the symphony or seen the many different instruments that make up the symphony.

We had a great time!!
