We won a Smart Board from HyVee!
This is the second year a row that we have been a winner in the contest.
In addition, the Chadwick family won a MacBook
for being the highest point earners at the winning school.
The Smart Board will be installed in the Computer Lab Next week.
Thanks to all for your help!!

Reminder: today is the final day to submit Box Tops for the fall collection drive contest. The winning classroom will enjoy a cookie party in the next few weeks! There’s been a last-minute push by a few classes, so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top! We’ll let you know next week.
Don’t forget that Friday is a half-day at Holy Cross for students. Our teachers will spend the afternoon with the School of Faith program.

Remember the Trash Bag Sale in September?
I set the proceeds aside for future technology
purchases. Well, this week I spent most of it.
We purchased 30 new laptops for our mobile
computer cart. That means we will have more than
75 laptops in our school in addition to our
desktop computers. We will have two sets
of the laptops as “mobile labs” and the third set
will be in our stationary lab.
Just before the end of the school year, the FDA donated 30 IBM desktop computers to our school. These are great computers and fit right in with our system. This means that there will be more computers at the children’s fingertips.
We will also be purchasing three more Smart Boards for classroom use. The lucky teachers who will receive these Smart Boards are Mrs. Mann, Mrs. Neuburger, and Mrs. Gittinger. Then we will have Smart Boards in all fourth- through eighth-grade classrooms and in our library. My goal is to have them in every classroom.
Our technology shopping list for the summer also includes new wireless access points (to keep our Internet connection secure and running smoothly) and several new laser printers.
Another technology enhancement you will see for next school year will be an upgrade in our e-mail system that will allow us to send attachments home when we do broadcast emails. This means that we will be able to e-mail our newsletter to every household each week – more on that in the summer mailing.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen for our children!!

I was just in Mrs. Patterson’s eighth-grade Science Lab.
She was using the SmartBoard to do a review of the parts of the heart and their functions.
It is an interactive class tool. Students are able to answer the question, then touch the screen to verify if they were correct.
The students were engaged and excited; I could see the learning happening right before my eyes!

Welcome back to Holy Cross students! I hope your holidays were fantastic and you’re energized for a whole new year. I am.
One great addition to Holy Cross in this new year is a SmartBoard in our library.
See below for a picture of our happy librarian, Mrs. Anne Anderson, along with me and a group of Holy Cross students when it was delivered in December.
Thanks to everyone who helped us win this wonderful resource for our students.
Also, Thanks to Hy-Vee and Proctor & Gamble for their generosity!
