PTO Bingo Baskets

We look forward to seeing you all at the Holy Cross Parish Festival on Sunday. Mass will be held at 12 Noon (no 11 a.m. English or 2 p.m. Spanish masses this week), then the festival will continue until 5 p.m.

The Holy Cross PTO is looking for help. More prize baskets are needed for the bingo tent. If you and your friends or family can donate a basket of items — or even just some items to add to another basket! — please bring them by the school office this week.

Esperamos verlos a todos en el Festival de la parroquia de la Santa Cruz el domingo. Se celebrará misa a las 12 la cual será bilingüe (habrá misa a las 11 en inglés, ni misa en español a las 2:00 esta semana) posteriormente, el festival llegara hasta las 5 p.m.

El PTO de La Santa Cruz está buscando ayuda.  Son necesarias mas cestas de premio son  para la carpa de bingo. Si usted y sus amigos o familiares pueden donar una cesta –o incluso sólo algunos elementos para añadir a la cesta! –por favor llevarlos por la Oficina de la escuela esta semana.

No School Supplies; Just Ice Cream

Less than a week until the 2011-2012 school year begins!  I look forward to meeting you at the PTO Ice Cream Social on Sunday and getting to know your children in school this year.  In order to give the teachers time to get their classrooms ready for the start of school on the 24th, students and parents will not be allowed in the building during the ice cream social.  Please bring all school supplies to school on the first day.

There is a LOT going on at the school, as you know. New administration, new teachers, new windows and a/c, new students, a new school year, and even a fresh coat of paint in many of the classrooms. Father Mike came over to meet the staff this week. He is excited to get the school year started. There is a great energy at the school.

There are also many questions, I know.  Let me address some that I’ve heard, and let me know of other questions or concerns that you have:

• The construction is going well.  We have been assured by all of the workers that they will be out of the building by next Wednesday.   Anything that still needs to be done inside or outside of the building will be done after school hours.  We will be starting school on on Wednesday, August 24th!  All of the classrooms will be ready for the students by the 24th! The first day of school is a  noon dismissal day.

• The lever windows have arrived! All of those spots that now have wood in them will be finished off with windows that open. Workers will continue on the construction at times that won’t impact our classroom learning.

• Yes, there are mandatory seminars for parents and coaches of CYO players to attend. Please click here to read the details. There was a parent seminar added on Sept. 1 at Bishop Miege at 7 p.m., but please note this is the Back To School Night at Holy Cross for parents of 6th through 8th graders. These ‘Play Like A Champion’ seminars are mandatory for parents of CYO fall sports players. There will be more seminars scheduled later in the year for other CYO seasons.

I appreciate your patience as we work out details and get settled. And I thank you for your help and kind words.

And Then There Were Two…

Laura Herr has joined the Holy Cross PTO Board for the 2011-12 school year. She will serve as our Hospitality Coordinator.

So, two Board positions remain – actually places for three Board members. Two Vice Presidents are needed and one New Family Ambassador Coordinator.

Holy Cross PTO is still looking for a few volunteers to help out on the PTO Board next year.

Are you looking for a way to help out your school?  Something that is fun, but not too time consumer?  PTO might just be the perfect fit for you. It’s a fantastic volunteer opportunity, and your kids will love seeing you at the school!

Note this!

A few update, changes and reminders to the school calendar this week:

• There is a PTO meeting tonight. All Holy Cross parents are welcome! Join us at the Longbranch Saloon @ 91st & Metcalf at 7 p.m.

• Plan on dinner @ Jimmy John’s @ 83rd & Metcalf tomorrow (Thu 4/28) between 5 and 8 p.m.

• We’re holding a food drive for Catholic Charities this week. Please send in what you can. Thanks!

• Friday is Spirit Day at Holy Cross.  Students may wear any Holy Cross shirt or sweatshirt (of any color) with their school uniform pants, shorts, skirt or jumper.

Fish Fry on Friday

Plan on coming to Holy Cross School this Friday for dinner!

Our Holy Cross PTO is holding its annual Fish Fry from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

The meal is always delicious and includes hand-breaded Alaskan pollock, french fries, green beans/corn, cole slaw, roll, dessert and iced tea/lemonade. There will be macaroni and cheese for those who aren’t big fans of fish.

A free will donation will be accepted.

Pick up your food in Pflumm Hall, and then head to the gym to eat and enjoy the fellowship of friends and family.

Tuesday Notes

A few things to note on this rainy Tuesday -

• I hope to see you all at tonight’s PTO meeting at 7 p.m. in the school library.

• Children need to come to school in uniform on Wednesday. We’ll have an All School Mass for Ash Wednesday.  Some rumors have it that tomorrow is green and white day.  Sorry, it is not.

• Wednesday is the end of the third quarter.

• Students will be off Thursday, Friday and the following week for Spring Break. Although teachers will have an in-service day for School of Faith on Thursday, but there will be no ASC.
