Holy Cross Mathletes Rule!

Holy Cross mathletes made a good showing in this quarter’s Mathletics competition on Dec. 8 at Cure of Ars Catholic School. Five Johnson County Catholic schools participated in teams of three. Our Holy Cross representatives were:

7th grade:
Ryan Jones, Mia Power and Emma Kate Callahan

6th grade:
Lucy Steyer, Abbey Motley, and Devin Palmer

5th grade:
Seaera Baker, Marcia Vascancelas and Mary Kate Pikus

4th grade:
Paul Kincaid, Noah Cordova and Jason Haeusser

Our 4th grade and 6th grade teams both won first place blue ribbons!  The fifth and seventh grade teams represented us well — we’re proud of all of them for their committment in math! (Only first and second place are awarded, so we never know how the other teams did.)

Our next competition will be in February, 2012. Our Hornets will be ready!!

de la Sra. Golub maestra substituta de la competencia En Matematicas -

Los estudiantes de Holy Cross realizaron un buen papel durante las competencias de Matematicas en la escuela de Cure of Ars el pasado 08 de Dic. 5 escuelas catolicas del Condado de Johnson participaron  formando equipos de tres. Nuestreso representantes fueron:

7grado:
Ryan Jones, Mia Power, and Emma Kate Callahan

6 grado:
Abbey Motley, Lucy Steyer, and Devin Palmer

5 grado:
Seaera Baker, Marcia Vascancelas, and Mary Kate Pikus

4 grado:

El 4to y 6to. grado ganaron el primer lugar teniendo obteniendo un liston azul como distintivo! el 5to. y 7. grado tambien tuvieron una buena representacion– estamos bien orgullosos de su compromiso con las matematicas! (solo se mencionaron el primer y segundo lugar, no se nos notifico respecto a los otros equipos)

Nuestra proxima competencia sera en Febrero del 2012. Nuestros Hornest estaran listos!!

Mathletics Championship

The championship Mathletics competition for Johnson County Catholic Schools was held on Thursday, May 5. Fifteen schools competed in this math competition for students in 4th through 7th grade.

The Holy Cross fourth grade team members were: Seaera Baker, Jacob Colling and Marcia Vasconcelos.

Our fifth grade team took third place in the competition. Members of this team were: Paige Bartlow, Lucy Steyer, and Brianna Torres. Way to go fifth graders!!!

Students representing Holy Cross on the sixth grade team were Allison Cashman and Anna Reynolds.

Our seventh grade team was made up of Gretchen Fiebig, Johanna Hocevar and Colleen Pikus.

We are so proud of these of students and all the students who participated in the Mathletics competitions throughout the year. They did a great job of representing Holy Cross!

4th Qtr Mathletics Meet

The fourth quarter Mathletics contest was held on Thursday, April 7, at St. Ann’s School.

Congratulations and a big “Thank You” goes to the following students who represented Holy Cross.

Phil Ehrnman, Marcia Vasconcelos and Tessa Vogt were our 4th grade team members.

Fifth graders, Jorge Palazuelos, William Sweatt, and Landon Wirt came home with first place ribbons.

The students who competed for Holy Cross on the sixth grade level were Jaden Castinado, Ashley Helm, and Jenna Steichen. Our seventh grade team placed first, also. This team consisted of Johanna Hocevar, Anthony Pham and John Sweetman.

Congratulations to all the students who went and thanks again for taking time after school to represent Holy Cross in this event. We are so proud of all of you!!!

Mathletics & Quiz Bowl

Congratulations to several of our Holy Cross students who participated in Mathletics and Quiz Bowl events last week.

Our 4th-grade Holy Cross team made a second-place showing in their first meet last Thursday. Hooray! And all the other Holy Cross teams came in first place in their grades! What an impressive showing by all.

Our Holy Cross Junior High Quiz Bowl team placed third at the Bishop Miege Quiz Bowl, also held on Thursday.

Great job, everyone! Go Hornets!!

Mathletics Kudos

Congratulations to all our Holy Cross mathletes.

A special shout-out to those who competed last week in the Archdiocese Mathletics Championships. Holy Cross made a great showing.

The Holy Cross team of Samantha Brown-Benedict, William Sweatt and Devin Palmer took second place among all the fourth-grade teams competing.

Our fifth-grade team — Rebecca Hauesser, Andrew Scism and Alessandro DeBrevi – placed first in their age group.

The Holy Cross sixth-grade team — Abbey Conner, Liam Eisenberg and Anthony Pham – and seventh-grade team —  Patrick Callahan, Philip Cordova and Drew Gustafson – didn’t place, but represented Holy Cross well at the championship.

Well done.

Congrats to our Mathletes

Our Holy Cross Mathletics made an impressive showing at the fourth-quarter competition at St. Ann’s Catholic School on April 8.

Congratulations to all the students who represented our school.

Fourth-graders Gabriel Lopez, Jennifer Stillie and Brianna Torres took second place.

The fifth-grade team — Rebecca Haeusser, Ashley Helm and Roberto Melgar — walked away with first-place ribbons.

Also winning first-place, our sixth-grade team was made up of Liam Eisenberg, Zach Pfeifer and Nate Privitera

There was no seventh-grade Holy Cross team this time because of a scheduling conflict.

We are so proud of all of you!

Mathletics Kudos

Congratulations to the Holy Cross students who participated in the third-quarter Mathletics competition held at St. Agnes School on Thursday, Feb. 4.

Our fourth-grade Holy Cross ‘mathletes,’ Paige Bartlow, Abbey Motley and Lucy Steyer, took second place.

Logan Aguilar, Roberto Melgar and Andrew Scism represented the fifth grade well.

Sixth-graders Liam Eisenberg, Johanna Hocevar and Anthony Pham came home with blue ribbons.

The Holy Cross seventh-grade sent Patrick Callahan, Drew Gustafson and Dan Stanton to the competition. They also took first place.

We appreciate the time and effort of all these students, and we thank them for doing such a fine job of representing Holy Cross. Great job, everyone!

Family Fun Night / Mathletics

December 4, 2009

Don’t worry about what to fix for dinner tonight – we’ve got it covered. Head to the Holy Cross Family Fun Night!

The 8th-graders host this special taco dinner and bingo night to raise money for their graduation fund. The fun starts with a taco buffet from 5 – 6:30 p.m. in Pflumm Hall and bingo 6 – 9 p.m. in the gym.  There are terrific prizes, including cash, Chiefs tickets, an iPod Nano, hotel and restaurant gift certificates and more.

Congratulations to our Holy Cross Mathletics teams, who competed with several area Catholic schools at Cure of Ars yesterday. All of our 4th- through 7th-grade teams did great, and our 4th-, 5th- and 7th-graders all took first place! Go Hornets!
