Please come to the loading zone behind the school (in the Trees lot) by 8:30 a.m. if you can help drive. Thanks!

Reminders for Wednesday

December 7, 2010

Holy CrossPlease remember that we have an All School Mass tomorrow (Wednesday) for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.  The weather forecast is predicting a low of 19 tonight.  This means that tomorrow morning promises to be quite cold.

We plan to have a bus shuttle K – 3rd graders to church and back.

We will need parent drivers to help us with 4th – 8th grade.  If you are able to help with that, please be in the playground parking lot (Trees) lot between 8:25 and 8:30 a.m.

Even though we are planning to give the children rides to church and back,
it is still important for them to come dressed for the weather.
They often have to stand outside waiting to load onto the bus or into a car.  Also, depending on the temperature after mass, we may have the older children walk back to school.

Thanks for you help.

Another reminder for Wednesday, remember it is the final full day to drop off any gifts for our adopted Christmas families at St. Benedict’s.  The boxes will be delivered on Thursday.

Jesus was there…

September 21, 2010

Today Father Bob was out of town so he asked Father David to say Mass for the children.

Since Father David is just learning to speak English, we had a bilingual Mass this morning.

We are sharing English with him and he is sharing Spanish with us.  In either language, Jesus was there.

One True God

January 27, 2010

I’ve got the Mark Harris song, ‘One True God’, running through my head today. It’s a wonderful song the fourth-graders are learning for their mass next week. And, they’re so excited to be learning sign language to it. It’s really fun to see them.

I’ve seen many of the items that will be for auction (silent and also ‘live’) on Saturday at Celebration: An Evening with Friends.  And, I’ll tell you – I’m ready to shop! Don’t miss out on it.

It’s All Relative

January 8, 2010

A school parent shared with me an e-mail from a friend in the Minneapolis area. Here are the K-5 recess guidelines at her children’s school – “Students will be outside for recess unless it is raining, the play area is deemed unsafe due to icy or wet conditions, or the wind chill is below -10.”  That’s right – if it’s 9 below zero, put on those snow pants. You’re going outside.  On the other end of the spectrum, a friend in Austin reported they may cancel school because of the cold weather there –- the temperatures may dip down into the 20s!  It’s all relative, I guess.

An All-School Mass was scheduled at Holy Cross Church this morning. I don’t have word yet whether that mass will be rescheduled. I’ll keep you posted.

And, report cards were supposed to go home with Holy Cross students today. Grades were due Wednesday morning from teachers. Most of the grades are already posted online. You may have to wait on some. Your patience is appreciated. We plan to print grade cards on Monday, and they should be in backpacks on their way home by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Tuesday Morning Mass Plan

December 7, 2009

Parents,

We have an All School Mass tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. The weather forecast indicates that we will likely have light snow and cold temperatures.

We have a bus scheduled to help us transport the primary level children to church. We will need parent volunteers to help us transport the older children to church. If you can help us with that please come to the back parking lot at 8:30 a.m.

Please make sure that your children are dressed for the weather. Even though we will not be walking to church, they will have to stand outside for loading into a bus or car.

Thanks.

Our Children Teach Us

October 4, 2008

Tuesday morning I attended Mass with the children.  The first grades lead us.  They did the readings (the introduction, the reading from the Old Testament, and the intercessions), the lead us in singing, and prepared the altar at Offertory.  They also gave a very beautiful reflection on our Guardian Angels and how we can look to them to help us through each day.  What stuck me the most was their innocent yet genuine sincerity and reverence through the entire Mass.  There is just nothing quite like a school mass in which children minister to us.  It reminded me how I should approach the Mass and Eucharist each and every time.  The experience reminded me that I, too, am a child of God.  I am grateful to them for their example.
