A few notes about our Lenten activities at Holy Cross School:
Stations of the Cross.
The teachers are praying the Stations of the Cross with their students each week during Lent. They are able to take the children to the school chapel for this. We will have an All School Stations of the Cross service tomorrow — Friday, April 8 — at 1:30 p.m. in the church.

A couple of notes to pass along -
It looks as if Mother Nature is not going to cooperate on Saturday, March 20 for the Easter Egg Hunt. Therefore, we will be canceling the event. The eggs that were donated will find their way to the children at school. Sorry for inconvenience! If you have any questions, feel free to call Mikki Lawrence at (913)530-3875.
Please remember to attend the Meatless Spaghetti Dinner in support of the Holy Cross Gabriel Project. All Proceeds will help support the Holy Cross Gabriel Project. Dinner following the Stations of the Cross Friday, March 19 in the Church basement. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

What are you doing for dinner on Friday?

The meal includes:
Volunteers are needed to help serve the dinner. Contact Claire Hulsey if you can help – rcehulsey@everestkc.net. Or sign up to bring a dessert. Call the school office to sign up for desserts, and plan on dropping it off on Friday in Pflumm Hall.
Thanks. See you there!

From our F3 organizers, Laura Haeusser, Jenny Kropf and Jennifer Lindsey:
It’s Lent, so let’s begin with Stations of the Cross and Mass at Holy Cross church at 5:30. After Mass, about 6:30, join us in Pflumm Hall for a meatless potluck. Then, test your family skills for game night. We’ll have both family vs. family and one-on-one games, and of course, prizes!
What to bring:
A dinner dish to share
A fun family game
Ideas for future Family Fun Fridays (F3)
We’d love to know if you are coming for planning purposes, so RSVPs would be great, but are not required.
We’d just love to have you!

On Wednesday, we began our Lenten journey with an All-School Mass. During thr mass, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to distribute ashes. As I made the Sign of the Cross in ashes on the foreheads of students, teachers, parents, grandparents and babies, I was reminded of our connection in Christ. Looking in each person’s eyes and repeating the words “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel” was an experience that moved me to self-reflections.
Yesterday, Mrs. Helm invited me to come to a prayer service with the eighth-grade girls. As I listened to the scripture readings, the thoughts of reflection and the intercessions, I was again called to self-reflect.
This is what the Season of Lent is about — self-reflection. We are called to look at ourselves, identify our own weaknesses and make changes to bring ourselves closer to each other and to God. We are so fortunate to be able to share this with the Holy Cross children and our school community.
As we walk through the Lenten journey together, I pray that our community grows in faith in God and love for each other. This is the true expression of a Catholic community. It is a profound challenge, but we have the Lord to support and guide us.
Sunday’s Gospel February 21, 2010 Luke 4: 1-13
“One does not live on bread alone.”
“You shall worship the Lord, your God, and him alone shall you serve.”
“You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.”
