Check Your Sunday Paper, Please

January 6, 2012

Could you check your Sunday paper this weekend to find the bonus Labels for Education sheet shown below?

If you can find the UPCs to glue to it, GREAT! We’d love them. They mean bonus points for Holy Cross School.

But, even if you have no UPCs to go with it, please turn in the bonus collection sheet to school. We’ll try to find the needed UPCs.

This is a great opportunity to earn extra Labels points, which translates to more STUFF for the school. Last year, the school purchased 15 new playground balls with Labels for Education points.

Everyday Ways To Help Holy Cross

Everyday Ways to Help Holy Cross

September 30, 2011

The Entertainment Book sale has wrapped up. Please get your orders to the school office today, or return any books you were unable to sell. Thanks for your help with this school fundraiser!

There are a number of ways you can help raise funds for Holy Cross while just living your everyday life!  Let us know if you’ve got more ideas (just add a comment to this post!)

Goodsearch

You can raise 1 cent for Holy Cross for every Internet search you do. Just sign up at Goodsearch.com and designate Holy Cross as your choice for donations. Imagine if all our school families did searches with Goodsearch instead of Google or Yahoo. Those pennies would add up quickly!

Box Tops / Labels for Education / Best Choice UPCs

Holy Cross gets 10 cents for every Box Top collected. Plus, there are bonus Box Tops and other frequents specials with the program. Click here for a list of all the Box Tops products available. The school received more than $1,800 from Box Tops last year.  With your help, we can top that this year!  The money, which goes to the Special Projects fund at the school, which helps pay for things like bus transportation to the church for All-School Mass on inclement weather days.

The Labels for Education program is based on points, not actual money. Labels are generally marked for 1, 5 or 10 points. We can pick merchandise for the school with the points collected. The school used some of our Label collection points from last year to purchase 15 new playground balls. Click here for a list of products that carry various points of Labels.  (available also in Spanish)

Best Choice UPCs are worth 3 cents each to the school. Doesn’t seem like much, but that really adds up.  We made $120 last year from Best Choice UPCs. With your help, we could double that this year. Just look through your cupboard and see how many Best Choice items you have!

So, when you spot a Box Top, Label or Best Choice UPC, clip it! Keep a little bag of them in your kitchen, and drop them by the school when it’s full.

Paper Recycling

Don’t throw out all those newspapers, office papers and homework sheets! Keep a bin in the garage for them. When it’s full, drop it by the green recycling containers in the Holy Cross preschool parking lot!   As part of the Special Projects fund, the money raised from recycling helped pay for things like wall mounts for the SmartBoards and a new computer for our school secretary.

SunnyD Book Spree

This is a new one for Holy Cross this year.  Please save the UPC labels from SunnyD products (16 oz or larger).  For every 20 labels, the school gets 20 Scholastic books! You can send those in along with your other labels and UPCs, and they’ll get sorted.  Click here for more information on the program.

Scrip

Scrip = Gift Cards, pretty much.  Buy cards for face value, and the school gets a percentage.  There are loads of stores, restaurants and other businesses on the list. Use them for groceries, gas, gifts, etc.  And you get a cut of the deal, as well. A percentage of the school’s percentage can be used toward your tuition bill or to donate to the Guardian Angel Fund.  The whole program is just Win/Win.  The money raised from Scrip is part of the church budget.  Click here to take a look at the list of Scrip available, and figure out how you can use it for your family’s purchases.

Target REDcard

The Target card is another Win/Win proposition for you and Holy Cross.  Choose Holy Cross as your school. You get 5% off your Target purchases when you use it, and the school gets a 1% donation with your purchase, as well.  We just received a check for more than $800, which will be directed to the ‘Special Projects’ fund. (That fund pays for things like staff enrichment programs.)  Click here to find out how to get your very own Target REDcard.

Thanks for all your help with collecting Box Tops, Labels for Education and Best Choice UPCs for Holy Cross!

Let’s make one big final push for the school year in April. We’re about 1,000 Campbell’s Labels for Education points away from our goal for the year.  We can reach this goal with your help. And, if we do, we’ll earn even more bonus points for Holy Cross.

A few random notes…

January 29, 2011

Just a few quick and random thoughts for you to consider this weekend -

  • Voting continues through Monday for the Pepsi Refresh contest. “It ain’t over ’til it’s over!” So, please vote, vote, vote. All the voting info is on the school website at holycrosscatholicschool.com.
  • Please consider dropping by the school tomorrow morning to help clean up after Celebration. We’ll start after 7:30 mass and continue until it’s done. Many hands make light work – it won’t take more than a few hours if we have lots of helpers.  Call Jenny Kropf if you have any questions.
  • Registration forms for the 2011-12 school year went home by backpack mail this past week. The discounted Early Bird registration fee ends on February 15, so get that check and paperwork returned to the office soon!
  • Box Top and Label coordinator Marti Palmer is looking for a UPC code from a Pepperidge Farm product and a Pop Secret product (for a Labels for Education bonus sheet that was turned in). If you can provide either or both UPC codes, please send them by backpack mail to Marti (Devin Palmer, 5NE).

I told you they were going to be random thoughts, didn’t I?

Thanks for your help. Have a great weekend. See you at Celebration tonight!

Lots of News

January 7, 2011

We’ve been so Pepsi Refresh-focused that I haven’t taken the time to catch you up on the other news at Holy Cross. Here’s some of it. The newsletter will be coming out in a little bit with more..

  • Don’t forget to turn in your Celebration reservations. They’re due today. We’re also accepting items for the auction still, so please drop something by the school office any time.  Visit holycrosscelebration.com for much more info.
  • Two announcements in one on this one – we had a snowblower donated to the school! It’s actually from the Maldonados. Guillermo and Gladys are still struggling with red-tape issues in Venezuela, and Sr. Maldonado unfortunately won’t be back to teach Spanish in the lower grades the rest of this year. Please keep the family in your prayers at this frustrating time for them.  And despite their struggles, they’re keeping Holy Cross in their thoughts and donating their snowblower to the school!
  • We may be putting that snowblower to good use on Monday. The forecast shows snow on the way! Click here for a reminder of the Holy Cross snow policies and procedures.
  • Today is the final day to turn in Labels for Education for the holiday collection drive. We’ll get back you soon to announce our winner. Thanks to all for their contributions!
  • Back to Pepsi Refresh for a moment, have you voted today?  Visit the school website to get all the voting information. And please pass that link on to everyone you can.  I know we’re sounding like a broken record, but this is huge. What a blessing it would be for the school to win this.  It’s going to take a concentrated effort by EVERYONE to make this a reality. 24 more days. Let’s win this thing!  To that end, if you could volunteer in the community outreach effort, please contact the school office or Laura Haeusser. Thanks to all!

Holiday Label Drive

November 19, 2010

from Holy Cross Box Top, Label & Best Choice UPC Fanatic Mom, Marti Palmer -

Thanks for collecting Box Tops for our fall drive! There was a last-minute push by a certain sixth-grade class that could make the final count interesting. We’ll get back with you on the winning class.

NOW, another drive. This time for Campbell’s Labels. As we head into the holidays, please keep a lookout for those Labels for Education on your groceries. The details on the contest will be in this week’s newsletter, but here are the basics:

  • Everyone is eligible – parents, teachers, students – whoever’s name is on the bag of labels.
  • The last day to submit Labels for the contest will be the Friday we return after Christmas Break, Jan. 7.
  • The top-collecting entry will win a $10 Houlihan’s gift card.

p.s. Any labels that were submitted with the entries I picked up this morning at the school will be counted toward this label drive. There were two entries (one in an envelope, one in a baggie) with the class marked on it, but no name. There were a significant amount of labels in those entries. If you can claim them, let me know (include which class was marked on them so that I know it’s you.) Email me, mpalmer.capfed@gmail.com. Thanks!

Box Tops Update

October 27, 2010

From Box Tops/Labels Coordinator, Marti Palmer –

Just some quick updates and reminders about Box Tops, Campbell’s labels and Best Choice UPCs.  And a big thank you to everyone who is collecting them!

First, I wanted to let you know that the Holy Cross Early Education Center just received three videos and a balance beam thanks to the points collected from Campbell’s labels. This is In addition to the three globes the grade school ordered from the points. Keep those labels coming!

We’re holding a collection drive for Box Tops right now, and the class that collects the most Box Tops will receive a cookie party!  Make sure to label your bag or collection sheet with your student’s name and class, so that we know where to credit the points. The final day to turn in Box Tops for the contest is Thursday, Nov. 18.  So far, the Kinders, first- and second-graders are pretty much crushing all the other classes. Let’s see some competition from those older grades!  Click here to download a collection sheet for the contest (but feel free to just turn in a baggie-full, if you want.)

The Box Tops website is offering a contest right now to announce the addition of Progresso Soups to the Box Top family.  To enter, you submit a photo showing how you’re spreading the news. We’re submitting a few photos (and feel free to do so on your own!)  They’ll select several finalists and a winner will be chosen by online votes. So….. if we get selected as a finalist, expect to hear from me, soliciting your votes!  Wish us luck – the prize is 100,000 Box Tops ($10K for the winning school!)

Please forward this on to any Holy Cross families who may not yet be reading the blog. Thanks!
