Reminders for Wednesday

December 7, 2010

Holy CrossPlease remember that we have an All School Mass tomorrow (Wednesday) for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.  The weather forecast is predicting a low of 19 tonight.  This means that tomorrow morning promises to be quite cold.

We plan to have a bus shuttle K – 3rd graders to church and back.

We will need parent drivers to help us with 4th – 8th grade.  If you are able to help with that, please be in the playground parking lot (Trees) lot between 8:25 and 8:30 a.m.

Even though we are planning to give the children rides to church and back,
it is still important for them to come dressed for the weather.
They often have to stand outside waiting to load onto the bus or into a car.  Also, depending on the temperature after mass, we may have the older children walk back to school.

Thanks for you help.

Another reminder for Wednesday, remember it is the final full day to drop off any gifts for our adopted Christmas families at St. Benedict’s.  The boxes will be delivered on Thursday.

Starting the Shuffle

October 21, 2010

The Great Move for the church staff is getting started this week.

The office furniture for the parish staff was delivered earlier this week.  Cable has been pulled for their computers, and they started moving in yesterday.

This means that the Holy Cross classroom they have been using as office space will be transformed in to Mrs. Lewis’s 4th-grade classroom in the very near future.

I will keep you posted!

Saying Farewell to Father Mark

June 23, 2010

Mark your calendars for the weekend of July 10-11!

There will be two opportunities to wish Father Mark well
on his new assignment and express appreciation for his
12 years of service to Holy Cross.

The first opportunity is a reception on Saturday, July 10,
6 to 10 p.m.

There will also be a reception Sunday afternoon,
hosted by the Hispanic Ministry, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Parishioners and school families are welcome
at both events. The receptions will be held in the Parish Activity Center Gym
at Holy Cross School.

Watch for more details soon…

Under Construction

June 1, 2010

from Father Mark -

As Holy Cross Church heads into a summer of construction, we invite each household to pray for a safe and successful renovation of the church basement. Here’s our prayer -

Heavenly Father, creator of all that is good,
for over 40 years you have graciously blessed our Holy Cross family.
Humbly, we come before you admitting our needs.
Give us the strength and willingness to sacrifice for your glory.
We pledge ourselves to the parish renewal.
Send forth your Spirit as we journey together to build Your Kingdom.
Jesus, we trust in you!
Amen.

Because of the renovation of the basement, the church will not have a nursery for the Sunday masses until October. Thanks, moms and dads, for all your efforts to care for our little ones during the masses. We’ll have a new space for them in just a few months.

Church Construction

May 7, 2010

It’s an exciting and busy time at the Holy Cross Church as we prepare for construction in the parish hall this summer.

Notes about the construction plans that may affect you and your family:

  • Church staff members are in need of packing boxes. Sturdy boxes with lids are requested.
  • If your group needs a place to meet during the construction period, consider reserving a room at the school. Call Pam in the church office to work out details.
  • There will be no Vacation Bible School at Holy Cross this summer.
  • There will be an item sale/giveaway on May 22/23 as the 40-year-old church hall is emptied of tables, desks, chairs and other items that have been hidden for years, in some cases!
  • Plans are being made for a ‘farewell celebration’ for the old church hall. More details as they become available.

Thanks for your help!

New Holy Cross Church Web Site

March 1, 2010

Take some time to explore the new Holy Cross Church Web site this week. Visit and bookmark http://www.holycrossopks.org.

Father Mark’s homilies are available as podcasts on the homepage. Just click ‘listen.’  He’s looking for some assistance in recording and posting the homilies, so contact the church office if you can help.

There are some kinks still to be worked out, and more content will be added. But, we’re proud of the new site and hope you enjoy it. Just be patient as the new and improved site gets completed.

p.s. There are sponsorship opportunities on the church Web site and in the church bulletin. Call the church office at (913) 381-2755 for more details!
