  • Congratulations to the 2012-13 Holy Cross Student Council – President Rebecca Haeusser, Vice President Ellie Thompson, Secretary Emma Kate Callahan and Spirit Booster Allie Canfield!
  • Several field trips are planned for this final full week of the school year. What beautiful weather is forecasted!
  • PTO and Mrs. Obershaw are still looking for a few volunteers for Field Day next Monday. If you can spare an hour or two, please call the school office.
  • Check with your student(s) to see if they turned in all their library books. They were due to the library last Friday, but some are still out there.
  • Talk with your student about whether your family is going to donate remaining used school supplies at the end of the school year. If you wish to donate the school supplies when the students clear out their desks, please drop them off in collection boxes outside of Mrs. O’Brien’s classroom in the primary hallway. The Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Eucharist will send the supplies to children in Tanzania, Ghana and Nigeria. They also need desks and tables, if you have any to offer.

8th Graders Attend Topeka Rally

January 30, 2012

from Holy Cross Jr. High Teacher Paula Patterson -

Thirty-six eighth graders along with their teachers, Mrs. Kropf and Mrs. Patterson, attended the Pro-Life March in Topeka, Kansas on January 23rd.

The morning began with a beautiful celebration of the Mass at Topeka’s Performing Arts Center followed by the march to the Capitol. Governor Brownback was walking among the hundreds of marchers and took the time to shake hands and visit with many of our eighth grade students. Pro-Life senators and representatives, who lined the steps to the Capitol Building, were introduced.

It was an inspiring testimony to our young people to witness law makers who support life. Governor Brownback told the crowd that he was impressed with the number of young people present who are the future of our state and will protect the dignity of all life from conception to natural death. He concluded his speech with a prayer.

After lunch the eighth graders took a guided tour of the Capitol Building, learning interesting facts about the construction of the capitol building, our state’s history, and the senate chambers and the House of Representatives chambers.

4th Graders Experience One Room School House

November 8, 2011

Thanks to Holy Cross dad Bill Schneider for the following post and pictures -

Today, Mrs. G’s 4th grade class went to the Lanesfield One Room School House (just south of Gardner, Kansas) to go back in time to see how school kids their age experienced learning. The kids were asked to dress in 1804 attire and “live the experience”. They had to complete real lessons and practice their spelling, arithmetic, geography, and penmanship with ink pens during their visit back in time. Lunch was brought in tin cans and they had an indoor recess playing Jacks, hangman, and other novelty games. Fun was had by all!
