Snow Day?

January 19, 2011

Don’t let the kids get too excited yet – this isn’t an announcement. Just a reminder…

The snow has begun. Just in case we get as much snow as forecast, remember to watch the local TV news for closing information.

Holy Cross School and Early Education Center in Overland Park will be listed as

JOHNSON AND WYANDOTTE COUNTY
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

or
WYANDOTTE AND JOHNSON COUNTY
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

We WON’T be listed as Holy Cross Catholic School or Holy Cross Preschool.

PLEASE NOTE
– tonight’s PTO meeting has been canceled due to the weather. Please plan on joining us at the next scheduled meeting in the Holy Cross school library on February 2.

Winter Weather Policies

December 15, 2010

The weather is getting cold and we are sure to have some “winter weather”  coming our way.  I just want to remind you all of the policy regarding school closings.

The decision to close school due to weather is made by Dr. O’Hara, the superintendent of schools.

She notifies the media.  Your best source of information is to watch one of the major TV networks.  We will be listed as either

Johnson and Wyandotte County Catholic Schools

or

Wyandotte and Johnson County Catholic Schools

WE WILL NOT BE LISTED AS HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC SCHOOL.

If you see that listing, it refers to Holy Cross in Kansas City, MO.

Once school has started, we do not close school early due to weather.  You, as the parent, may make the decision to pick your child up early if you feel like.

Have a lovely winter!

Cold Weather Clothing

January 4, 2010

Welcome back!

With all the snow and low temperatures, it is important that your children come to school prepared for the conditions.

The sidewalks and steps are fairly well cleared, but I am sure there will be patches of ice.  The children may wear boots to school during this type of weather, however they need to bring athletic shoes with them to change.  This helps reduce the water/moisture on the floors (especially the hallways and stairs), and therefore reduces the chances of slips and falls.

Obviously, it will be too cold for outdoor recess, but it is still important to be sure that the children have coats, hats and gloves for drop-off and pick-up time.

We will have extra staff outside and in the hallways to assist students when coming in the building.  Please ask your children to be careful when getting out of the car and walking to and from the building.

Thanks for your help with these efforts!

Weather Update

December 8, 2009

Dr. O’Hara (superintendent of schools) tells me that based on the weather forecast, it looks like she will be making a “last minute” decision about school tomorrow. This will depend on the track the storm takes. Please know that we respect your right to make individual decisions for what you feel is best for your children, even if school remains open.

On Thursday, the prediction is for very cold temperatures and windy conditions. If there is no snow on the ground, Holy Cross will probably have school, even if the public schools close.

Please check the local TV stations for notification regarding school closing. We will be listed as “Johnson & Wyandotte County Catholic Schools” or “Wyandotte and Johnson County Catholic Schools.” WE WILL NOT BE LISTED AS HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC SCHOOL. If you see that on the TV, it refers to a school in Kansas City, MO.

I will also send an email out to all parents if school is closed.

Tuesday Morning Mass Plan

December 7, 2009

Parents,

We have an All School Mass tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. The weather forecast indicates that we will likely have light snow and cold temperatures.

We have a bus scheduled to help us transport the primary level children to church. We will need parent volunteers to help us transport the older children to church. If you can help us with that please come to the back parking lot at 8:30 a.m.

Please make sure that your children are dressed for the weather. Even though we will not be walking to church, they will have to stand outside for loading into a bus or car.

Thanks.
